Geospatial Engineer Safety & Security
- On-site, Hybrid
- Amersfoort, Utrecht, Netherlands
Job description
About Terramira
Terramira is a new player in Earth Intelligence, built on the combined knowledge and experience of NEO, eLEAF, and 52impact. We translate satellite and sensor data into clear insights that help organizations make better decisions.
We do this for a wide range of challenges related to climate, water, agriculture, infrastructure, and nature, as well as security both domestically and internationally. Within our Safety & Security division, we develop solutions that give organizations insight into what is happening on and around Earth, supporting preparedness and recovery. Examples include analyzing terrain and infrastructure for defense purposes and providing support during emergencies.
Our strength lies in combining geodata, remote sensing, AI, and domain expertise. We develop technology and intelligence that is not only interesting on paper, but is actually used to support decision-making.
We are a growing organization with short lines of communication, an open culture, and plenty of room for individual initiative. You will work alongside colleagues with a wide range of expertise and have the opportunity to make a direct contribution to solutions that matter.
What will you do?
As a Geospatial Engineer, you will work on solutions that turn geodata into actionable information for safety, security, and recovery-related challenges. A good example is a project focused on improving terrain traversability: providing insight into where and how effectively vehicles and other assets can move through a given area.
At present, different countries and organizations often work with their own maps, datasets, and standards. Data analysis and production are also frequently manual and time-consuming. As a result, maps can quickly become outdated, increasing the risk of miscommunication or incorrect decisions. We are therefore working toward a scalable and standardized solution in which everyone works from the same up-to-date map and the same underlying data.
As a Geospatial Engineer, you will contribute to the technical development of this solution. You will work with various geospatial data sources, including satellite, radar, and drone data, and help process these efficiently and at scale.
Your responsibilities may include:
Processing, managing, analyzing, and combining various geospatial data sources.
Developing and improving geospatial workflows and data products.
Working on solutions that can be deployed at scale and used across multiple countries or by multiple users.
Investigating how new data sources and technologies can be integrated.
Collaborating with developers, data scientists, geospatial experts, and other specialists within Terramira.
You will not be working on a single isolated solution. An important principle at Terramira is Build once, Scale forever. New capabilities developed for Safety & Security can also be applied to other customers and use cases. In this way, you will help build technology that not only improves a single project, but strengthens Terramira as a whole.
You will work on a variety of projects within Safety & Security. These may include applications related to terrain analysis, infrastructure, and mapping changes in the physical environment. This gives you the opportunity to further develop your geospatial expertise while working on challenges with clear operational impact.
Job requirements
What are we looking for?
We are looking for someone who is energized by geodata and enjoys solving complex geographical challenges. You have approximately 2–5 years of relevant professional experience and are ready for a role in which you can combine your technical knowledge with substantive domain challenges.
You also recognize yourself in the following:
HBO/WO-level education and thinking, for example in geoinformatics, GIS, Earth sciences, computer science, or a related field;
2–5 years of experience with geospatial data, GIS, or geospatial software development;
Experience processing and analyzing geographic datasets;
Programming skills, including Python;
An interest in working with remote sensing and Earth Observation data;
Strong analytical skills and a genuine interest in solving complex problems;
The ability to work independently, while also actively seeking collaboration with colleagues;
Strong written and spoken Dutch and English.
Experience with the following is a plus, but not a requirement:
PostGIS / PostgreSQL
GDAL / GeoPandas / Rasterio
OGC standards
Cloud environments, such as AWS
Docker and CI/CD
Hyperspectral, radar, and drone data
Experience working in a sovereign, independent environment
What do we offer?
At Terramira, you will have the opportunity to further develop yourself while helping build an organization that is constantly evolving. You will work on intellectually challenging projects using modern geospatial, cloud, and AI technologies, alongside colleagues with a wide range of expertise. You will have a great deal of freedom in how you organize your work, with plenty of room to experiment with new ideas.
We work in a hybrid setup, with an average of two days per week from our office in Amersfoort and one day per week in Eindhoven. Both offices are located next to the train station and within walking distance of the city center. The atmosphere is informal and communication lines are short.
You can also expect:
A 32–40 hour per week employment contract.
Flexible working hours and the option to work hybrid.
25 vacation days, with the option to purchase an additional week.
A salary that matches your experience and background.
Plenty of opportunities for personal and professional development.
The opportunity to work with modern technology and complex geospatial challenges.
In short: a place where you not only work on interesting projects, but also have a genuine influence on what we build as an organization and as a team.
Ready to make an impact?
Would you like to use your geospatial data expertise to address challenges related to security, preparedness, and recovery? And would you enjoy working with a multidisciplinary team to develop technology that turns data into actionable intelligence?
Then we would love to meet you.
